Three Vintage Waterford Crystal Wine Glasses Royal Tara Pattern Hand Blown and Cut Crystal 225 ml 17.3 cm H 9.6 cm D circa 1980

A set of three vintage cut crystal wine glasses made by the prestigious glassmakers, Waterford Crystal of Waterford, Munster in the Republic of Ireland.

These lead crystal wine glasses stand 6 3/4 inches (17.3 cm) high, 3 3/4 inches (9.6 cm) diameter at the rim and can hold over 225 ml measures. They are hand blown and cut in the Royal Tara pattern which was introduced around 1966 and is now discontinued. These glasses date from around 1980.

The bell shaped bowls are beautifully cut with eight large panels or facets, with the bases of the bowls having diamond facet cuts. The rim of the bowls are relatively thick for a wine glass and have a double bevelled edge which creates a very sumptuous look.  The long facet cut stem have three knops, the one at the top is a facet cut ball knop and is larger than the two lower faceted blade knops. The plain feet have eight flat facet cuts around the outer edge.

The bases of the feet have polished pontils, one of which carries the etched Waterford mark in Gothic script, a mark which was discontinued around 2000.

The glasses are in excellent vintage condition with the usual minor marks and scratches. One has a tiny nick on the lower edge of the inside of the rim, some tooling marks dating from manufacture. Together the three weigh an impressive 1394 grammes. Perfect for display and use and would grace anyone's Christmas dinner table.
