James Dixon & Sons silver plated Commode shaped EPBM tea pot engine engraved design - antique George V circa 1920 2 pint capacity

A lovely, antique, George V commode shaped silver plated tea pot by James Dixon and sons circa 1920. This is a very decorative looking and useful tea pot from the first quarter of 20th century. It is of a curved tapered sided ribbed oval commode shape with engine engraving. The slightly domed and "quilted" hinged lid has a sunburst design on the hinge and a cast oval button shaped finial.

The elegant oval shaped body has four vertical ribs with two bands of horizontal engine engraved lines and central floral scroll vacant cartouches. The spout is a plain cast slightly curved straight shape, the handle has pierced terminals and a ceramic insulator to the top as well as an upturned thumb rest and small diamond shaped thumb stop.

The base is stamped with the marks: a St James's type cross, the trademark of a trumpet and banner, JD&S EPBM - (Electroplated Britannia Metal), the serial number 875/1.These all relate to James Dixon and Sons who operated from Cornish Place, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. This teapot dates from the period 1921-1927. (ref 1).

The teapot is in good antique condition with some wear and minor marks to the plate, The internals are bright and clean with some tannin marking from use. It is difficult to take images of silver plate without getting some reflection of the camera in the body. This large teapot has a maximum capacity of about 2 pints and is an excellent pourer.

This is a very attractive antique silver plated tea pot, highly decorative for either display or use.
