James Dixon and Sons silver plated Commode shaped tea pot engine engraved design - antique George V circa 1921 2 pint capacity
A lovely, antique, George V commode shaped silver plated tea pot by James Dixon and sons circa 1921. This is a very decorative looking and useful tea pot from the first quarter of 20th century. It is of a flat tapered sided ribbed oval commode shape with engine engraving.
The elegant oval shaped body has four vertical ribs and two bands of engine engraving of lines and anthemion or palmate pattern. The spout is a plain cast S shape, the handle has floriate terminals and a ceramic insulator to the top.
The base is stamped with the mark James Dixon and Sons, EPBM - (Electroplated Britannia Metal), the serial number E827. James Dixon and Sons operated from Cornish Place, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. This mark dates from the period 1921-1927. (ref 1).
The teapot is in good antique condition with some very minor marks to the plate, and three small dents to the sides, one to the right middle face and two to the left front face which also has a small marks near the base. The internals are exceptionally bright and clean. It is difficult to take images of silver plate without getting some reflection of the camera in the body. This large teapot has a maximum capacity of about 2 pints and is an excellent pourer.
This is a very attractive antique high quality silver plated tea pot, highly decorative for either display or use.
