Japanese Patinated Bronze Vases Mixed Metal Meiji Antique circa 1900 - inverted baluster decorated with birds and peony flowers Shakudo 15 cm high

A pair of antique Japanese patinated bronze mixed metal vases decorated with birds and peony flowers. Some collectors may refer to this type of mixed metal decoration as Shakudō 赤銅. This lovely pair of antique decorative vases were made in Japan during the Meiji period (1868-1912) circa 1900.

The vases are in a traditional saké decanter shape known as heishi (瓶子). In the UK we could refer to this shape as an inverted baluster.

In good antique condition, some wear to the patination on each, one appears to have a repaired base and a small hole near some dents to the back of this vase.
