Japanese Patinated Bronze Vases in Mixed Metal - Antique Meiji Period circa 1900 - inverted baluster decorated with rose flowers - Shakudo 18 cm high
A pair of antique Japanese patinated cast bronze mixed metal vases decorated with rose flowers engraved stems and leaves. Some collectors may refer to this type of mixed metal decoration as Shakudō 赤銅. This lovely pair of antique decorative vases were made in Japan during the Meiji period (1868-1912) circa 1900.
The vases are in a traditional saké decanter shape known as heishi (瓶子). In the UK we could refer to this shape as an inverted baluster.
In good antique condition, some wear to the patination on each, one has a small scratch to the right hand shoulder. There are some minor flaws in the casting on each, one on the inner rim, the other on the foot. They are not watertight. Please see the images.
