Pair Japanese Antique Shibayama Panels Inlaid Mother of Pearl Meiji Signed
These very attractive and decorative early 20th century lacquer panels each have an integral frame lacquered in a dark burgundy and painted in black with prunus flowers or cherry blossom, with traces of gilding. We think that it dates from the late Meiji ( 明治 ) period 1868 to 1912.
Each panel has two wooden supports at the back, the top one of each has metal loops and wire to hang them on the wall.
The panels are in very good antique condition. There are some minor knocks and losses to the lacquer on edges of the panels. Minor marking commensurate with their age. The gilding has worn, but there are no losses to the mother of pearl inlay.
The panels are each 24 inches (61 cm) high and 14 1/4 inches ( 36 cm) wide and 1 1/4 inches ( 3 cm) deep. The two panels weigh a total of 3.9 Kg unpacked.
A great early 20th century pair of very decorative and collectable antique items.
