John Rose Coalport porcelain dessert plate - green Oeil De Perdrix lip with floral cartouches & gadrooned Union pattern border - antique Georgian 1825
A lovely, highly decorative, antique Oeil de Perdrix green ground porcelain (bone china) dessert plate dating from the late Georgian period of the early 19th century. It was made by John Rose and Co of Coalport, Shropshire in England circa 1825. It has been moulded in a round lobed shape with a gadrooned rim and "Union" pattern border details. The centre and three reserves to the border are painted in polychrome enamels with flowers, including roses, violets and poppies. The lip of the plate has the 'Oeil De Perdrix' border on a light green ground with gilt details. The Oeil de Perdrix pattern - French for eye of a partridge - a repeating pattern of dotted circles was originally made by Sevres in the late 18th century. The underside of the plate is unmarked other than a jigger mark.
The plate measures 9 1/2 inches (24. cm) in diameter and stands 1 inch (2.5 cm) high. It weighs 464 grammes unpacked. It is in very good antique condition with some wear to the gilding rubbing to the glaze from stacking a few small nicks the the back of the rim, two firing tears to the back of the cavetto, no cracks nor restoration. It rings beautifully when flicked with a finger. The price takes the condition into account.
This is a great piece to add to any collection of antique English bone china porcelain plates, early John Rose Coalport dessert plates or Oeil de Perdrix pattern border items.
