Josiah Spode Porcelain Coffee Can Hand Painted Antique Georgian c 1790 - 1805

An lovely antique early Josiah Spode porcelain coffee can dating from the late 18th century. This is a very attractive and highly collectable example of early English porcelain made by the renowned maker from Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, England.

This coffee can dates from around 1790  to 1805 and is beautifully hand decorated with black floral swags, gilded plumes and gilt and black leaf swags. There are orange painted inserts at the top of each gilded plume. The decoration is opulent and beautifully executed as you would expect to see from this maker.

There is a very small gilt ladder type decorator's mark on the base. See Godden's  Encyclopaedia of Pottery and Porcelain Marks number 3647 page 589. See also palte 258 page 43 of  a Compendium of British Cups by Michael Berthoud.

Excellent antique condition with just a tiny  flake to the gilding at the rim and a minor frit mark in the bottom of the can, dating from manufacture.

This is a great item for any collector. Please see my other antique porcelain also listed for sale this week.
