Large Ruby Glass Table Centrepiece or Epergne Stand & Ruby Glass Trumpet Antique circa 1880 - Applied crimped leaf & embossed daisy decoration 42cm H

A very decorative late Victorian antique ruby glass table centre piece in the form of an epergne stand and ruby wrythen glass trumpet or horn dating from the late 19th century circa 1880. Most probably made in Stourbridge by one of the Victorian glass houses. It stands approximately 16 1/2 inches ( 42 cm) high and is 10 inches diameter. 

The epergne is made entirely of glass with the exception of the metal socket inserts to locate the two parts securely together. The large deep rounded ruby glass (cranberry) bowl stands on a thick clear glass baluster stem rising from a wide star or sun shaped foot that has been decorated with embossed daisy flowers. The bowl has applied clear glass crimped rim that has a simulated leaf form. There is a short central clear glass column with a gilded metal insert for the stem of the trumpet. 

The central ruby glass trumpet shaped horn has an everted or turn over rim with an applied clear glass leaf shaped crimped rim, similar to the bowl. The base of the horn has an integral long thin drawn clear glass stem which has at the top more applied crimped leaf shaped decoration. The end of the stem is bonded into a metal socket that fits into the corresponding insert on the base.

The base is approximately 10 inches (25.4 cm) diameter and 7 3/4 inches (19.7 cm) high with a foot diameter of approximately 8 inches (20 cm).

The wrythen ruby glass (cranberry) turn over rim trumpet or horn has an applied clear glass frilled rim,  is 10 5/8 inches (27 cm) high and 6 1/4 inches (16 cm) in diameter and fits snugly into the holder.

The epergne and stand have an overall height of 16 1/2 inches (42 cm) and weighs 2395 grammes unpacked. The glass centre piece is in excellent antique condition without chips cracks nor restoration. The ferrule on the epergne is slightly small for the socket and has some tape applied around it to improve the fit, so this may possibly be a replacement. The central epergne sits very slightly off square at one orientation. The base is not quite flat and it can rock very slightly, this can be resolved with a tiny bit of blue tack or similar. The metal of the body and horn has tooling marks, and inclusions consistent with manual manufacture. Please see the images.

This beautiful ruby glass epergne would look lovely as a table centrepiece or or a side table or mantel piece and suitable for a spray of flowers or a single bloom.
