Antique Mason's Patent Ironstone China Meat Platter Chinese Gate and Peony Pattern by G.M. & C.J. Mason circa 1815 - 14 5/8" L x 11 1/4" W
A Mason's Patent Ironstone China rectangular shaped meat plate, platter or ashet. It has been transfer printed in an Chinese style pattern known as the Gate and Peony pattern. This Chinoiserie pattern depicts a large hollow blue rock with oversize Peony flowers in a garden. There is a Chinese style fence with a Buddhist swastika pattern. The pattern is underglaze transfer printed in blue and white.
The edge of the base has the impressed single line mark Mason's Patent Ironstone China to the underside. This very decorative antique ironstone plate dating from the Regency period ( George III - pre George IV) of the early 19th century has This mark was used circa 1813 -1820.
The plate was made by G.M. (George Miles) and C.J. (Charles James) Mason who were operating from the Patent Ironstone China Manufactory, Lane Delph, Staffordshire, England.
The plate is 14 5/8 inches (37cm) long and 11 1/4 inches (28.6cm) wide. It stands approximately 1 1/8 inches (2.8 cm) high and weighs 1320 grammes unpacked. It is in good antique condition with some minor wear and scratching to the glaze from use. No chips, cracks nor restoration. There are minor traces of gilding which has worn off. It is a very attractive item for display and will be of particular interest to collectors of Mason's ironstone and antique English transfer-ware.
