Astra Ware Small Planter Streaky Glaze Minton Hollins Antique Art Pottery
Astra Ware Small Planter Streaky Glaze Minton Hollins Antique Art Pottery
A small size planter made of stoneware with an art pottery streaky glaze in beige and smoky blue. This very attractive small planter is 3 inches high and has a very faint circular mark on the base. This, together with the style of the pot makes us believe that it is a piece of Astra Ware made around 1915 - 1920 by Minton, Hollins & Co, the renowned potters who produced tiles for The Houses of Parliament, The Victoria and Albert Museum and The US Capitol, among others. Some collectors may describe this as majolica streaky glaze.
The planter measures 2 3/4 inches at the rim and weighs 170g. It is in good condition with a small crack to the top rim and a tiny glaze chip to the foot and would grace any collection of British art pottery.
