Novelty Pottery Chest of Drawers Money Box Treacle Glazed Antique c 1870
A novelty money box or piggy bank with a relief moulded exterior design in the shape of a chest of drawers of 5 over three drawers and two turned pillars to the corners.. The money box has a Rockingham type treacle glaze giving it a great rustic look. It is an attractive, amusing and collectable pottery item.
There are no maker's marks as is usual with this type of ware but it was probably produced by one of the potteries in Scotland as the shape and design of the chest is Scottish in style. Possibly made in Prestonpans.
This money box dates from around 1870 and is a great item for any collector of treacle glazed items or Novelty items.
It is in good antique condition, the coin slot has been broken and widened. no other chips nor cracks, nor restoration. Please see the images.
