Novelty Pottery Chicken Money Box Yellow Ware Treacle Glazed Antique c 1870

A novelty money box or piggy bank with a relief moulded exterior design in the shape of a chicken sat in a woven basket. The money box is made of a yellow ware type stoneware with a partial Rockingham type treacle glaze giving it a great rustic look. It is an attractive, amusing and collectable pottery item.

There are no maker's marks as is usual with this type of ware but, it was probably produced by one of the Staffordshire potteries.

This money box dates from around 1870 and is a great item for any collector of treacle glazed items or novelty items.

It is in good antique condition, the beak has been broken and replaced with a filler and disguised (restored) as has a filled chip to the rear of the slot, the tail has a crack. No other chips cracks or restoration. Please see the images.
