Pair of antique Chinese export porcelain dishes from the late 19th century - hand painted in cobalt blue & white with a prunus blossom branch 28.5 cm

A highly decorative and collectable pair of antique 19th century Chinese export blue and white porcelain dishes each decorated with a hand painted branch of plum or prunus blossom against an under-glaze cobalt blue wash background.

The underside of the lip has been freely and confidently painted with stylised grasses. The base is unmarked but has an orange tinged body to the unglazed foot rim.

We believe that they date to the late nineteenth century during the reign of the Emperor Guangxu 光緒帝 (1875 -1908) in the late Qing dynasty 清代

The dishes measure approximately 11 1/4 inches (28.5 cm) in diameter and are 1 5/8 inches ( 4 cm) high to the rim, they weigh a total of 1906 grammes unpacked.

They are in very good antique condition without chips, cracks nor restoration. Each have some fritting to the glaze from manufacture, one has a slight warp from the original firing. Despite these very minor imperfections they display well and are a most attractive pair to add to a collection of blue and white hand painted Chinese porcelain.
