Pair of antique French brass Gothic Revival ornate candlesticks circa 1860 - tripod pad feet Fleur de Lys Napoleon III 23 cm high 1.8 kg

A beautiful high quality pair of antique French cast brass Gothic Revival candlesticks circa 1860. This period relates to the reign of Queen Victoria in the UK and Napoleon III in France. These cast brass candlesticks have each been made in six sections fastened together with a machine screw stud from the top section through to the base. 

The base which is of round pierced crown shaped with three fleur de lys, each of which sits above a curved and beaded pad foot. Above the base is an ornate spherical shaped knop with three equally spaced beads, each having a different design, one of which is a fleur de lys. These beads are made to look like applied jewel decoration. Above the ball is a small ribbed conical spacer supporting a drip pan or tray with a scalloped and pierced rim in fleur de lys shapes. On top of the drip pan stands a tall capital or sconce that is pierced in four places around the diameter with a low relief ornate lidded vase decoration. The sconce has a detachable blind nozzle.

These beautiful candlesticks are in excellent antique condition with the usual very minor marks and signs of use. Please see the images. Each candlestick measures 4 inches deep ( 10 cm) at the base  and 9 inches (22.8 cm) tall, the nozzle will take a 7/8 inch (2.1 cm) diameter candlestick. They weigh 1.761 kg unpacked.

They would make a great addition to any dinner table, mantelpiece or side table. A tremendous pair of antique French Gothic Revival brass candlesticks in the Louis XIV style dating from the mid-Victorian period circa 1860.
