Pair of Green Opaque Uranium Glass Mantle Lustre Vases Antique Victorian
A pair of green opaque Uranium glass mantle lustre vases with faceted cut glass prismatic lead crystal droppers, dating from the Victorian period around 1870, probably made in the Stourbridge in England.
These very pretty petal rimmed bowl columnar stemmed vases have been beautifully hand painted with a continuous flower and leaf decoration, in muted shades, with additional gilding to highlight the decoration. They are made of uranium glass which flouresces under ultra violet light (black light) Please see image number 8. This type of vase was often made to sit on mantle shelves and the glass droppers reflected the light in the room. They are highly decorative and very collectable antiques.
They are in good antique condition, one of the vases a petal has been broken and restuck to the rim, the other has a small chip to the tip of one petal that has been gilded over and also has a small chip and associated crack on the inside of the bowl see image number 11. There is minor wear to the gilding, some of the droppers have minor chips and some have been rewired. A beautiful and highly collectable pair of antique mantle lustres.
