Pair Staffordshire Figure Group Dogs and Puppies Lying on Kennels Antique c 1860
LookA true mirrored pair of unusual and fairly rare mid 19th century English antique Staffordshire pottery flatback figures or figurines each of a dog sat next to it's kennel with a puppy sat on the kennel roof.
Each Staffordshire group which is set on a rectangular base features a russet spaniel next to a kennel with a black and white puppy lying on the roof. This loop design is also referred to as "Dog with dog on doghouse" by some collectors.
These figures are simply decorated mainly to the front with hand coloured green, brown, black, yellow and red enamels and gilding. Remnants of a dull gilt base line to the front.
The figures are in very good antique condition no chips cracks nor restoration, each with wear to the gilding and some enamel, a tiny glaze flake to the rear of the left hand dog Some minor staining and crazing and a short firing tear along the line of the mould joint on the head of one puppy..
These are a great pair for display and are very decorative and attractive and unusual examples of antique Staffordshire flatbacks, mantle dogs, "Wally Dugs", Staffordshire dogs, Spaniels or early Victorian Staffordshire pottery.
