Papier Mache Plate Hand Painted Dog Chihuahua Antique Victorian c 1880
An antique papier mache plate that has been hand painted, in muted tones of brown and beige, with a dog's head. This plate or footed dish dates from the Victorian period circa 1880.
The dog illustrated is we think a Chihuahua, the name of which is taken from the state in Mexico.
The plate or dish is in very good antique condition with some marking along the bottom front probably from some form of stand. There are three tight stress cracks to the rim as illustrated in the images but they are not very obvious.
This is a beautiful item to add to any collection of papier mache and a very decorative display piece and a lovely depiction of a cute dog.
One of the images shows another similar plate painted with an English Water Spaniel, which we have listed separately.
