Patinated Bronze Greek Revival Style Urn On Black Marble Stand Antique c 1870
A large patinated bronze Greek revival Campana shaped urn on a black marble base, antique, mid to late 19th century circa 1870. ( some people may describe these as Etruscan revival).
This cast low relief, acanthus leaf based pedestal urn has a body that is decorated with continuous scene of Greek warriors on two chariots each being pulled by three horses there are two other figures each on horseback. The overturned rim has gadrooned decoration. There are two scrolling handles each with applied floral decoration.
The black marble base (probably polished Belgian black slate) has been decorated with two bronze Ionic columns and a gilded central floral engraving.
The urn has no makers nor founders marks, although we have seen some very similar in shape described as being Italian So it is being sold as probably Italian.
In very good antique condition with just a little wear to the patina commensurate with age and use. One of the floral embellishments on one of the handles is missing. The two front corners look to have been repaired. Some minor marking commensurate with age and use.
