Earthenware Jug Hand Coloured Transfer Printed Feather Pattern - Antique circa 1830

A very decorative and attractive antique English Rathbone porcelain jug or pitcher dating from circa 1825 in the early 19th century. George IV was on the throne when this jug was made. This "Dutch" shaped jug or pitcher is made of porcelain and is transfer printed and hand coloured Chinoiserie design which features Asian figures (Chinese), a large vase and flowers.

The jug, most probably for beer, ale or cider, has a capacity of just over 2 pints and stands 5 inches high and 5 3/4 inches diameter. It  has a very unusual printed mark "Porcelain" on the base, within an elaborate scrolled cartouche. The Jug was made by Rathbone of Tunstall, Staffordshire, England. They operated from 1808 until 1843. See "Rathbone China and Earthenware manufacturers" by Ian Harvey.

The jug is in good antique condition with a few small nibbles to the spout - please see the images. It weighs 503 grammes unpacked.  A very nice example of antique George IV or William IV period porcelain by Samuel and John Rathbone.
