Ridgway Regency Porcelain dessert plate - Pattern 941 Topographical scene - loop sprigged Mazarine Blue Ground Gilt Pale Lemon Floral Stars & Moons
A lovely, highly decorative, antique mazarine blue ground porcelain (bone china) loop sprigged dessert plate dating from the Georgian to Regency period of the early 19th century. It was made by Job Ridgway of the Cauldon Place China Works, Shelton, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire in England circa 1808 -1810. It has an ornate silver shaped rim with an octagonal lobed and crescent shaped edge with relief moulded or looped sprigged leaf decoration to four equally spaced places on the lip, coinciding with the lobes.
The centre of the plate, which has been reserved in white in an asymmetric twelve pointed star shape with a gilt line edge. It has been very finely hand painted with a central topographical scene in muted brown and green tones. There is a man with a staff or walking pole, sat on a banking at the edge of a track or road. The scene is set in a country landscape overlooking a lake in the background with a sailing boat on it and mountains behind. To his left is a small stone built cottage set amongst some trees. Around the central scene is a gilded scrolling leaf and stem decoration.
The rich mazarine blue ground around the lip has been further decorated with pale lemon coloured stylised flowers with gilding, some collectors may call them sun or star shapes. There are gilt dots and crescents, which could be described as moon shapes scattered around the lip.
The underside of the plate is marked in enamel with pattern number 941 in red cursive script.
It measures 8 3/4 inches (22. cm) in diameter and stands 1 1/8 inches (2.8 cm) high. It  weighs 373 grammes unpacked. It is in excellent antique condition with some wear to the gilding. No chips, cracks nor restoration.
This is a great piece to add to any collection of antique English bone china porcelain plates, early Ridgway dessert shape with looped sprigging or Cauldon Place items.
