Set of Seven Tall Funnel Bowl Champagne Flutes Diamond Faceted Stems and Engraved Bowls with Floral Swags and OXO Antique Georgian Style circa 1890
A beautiful and very useful set of seven of what we believe to be antique Georgian style diamond faceted stem ale glasses or champagne flutes with tall funnel bowls on diamond facet cut stems. The bowls are all engraved with and egg and dart or "OXO" and floral swag decoration. These glasses are made in the style of the late 18th century around 1790, George III period however we think that they date to the late Victorian period around 1890.Â
The glasses each have a tall round funnel bowl on a diamond faceted stem set on a plain foot which has a ground pontil. This is a lovely and unusual quality set of glasses and has the distinctive slightly greyish hue of antique lead glass, They ring beautifully when flicked with a finger. It is pretty rare to find such an extensive set of matching antique Georgian style glasses. Ideal for film or TV set dressing or for use.Â
They are all in excellent condition with no chips cracks nor restoration. There are signs of pucella tooling marks and some bubble and frit inclusions within the metal of the body of each glass.Â
All the glasses have been hand made and as such vary very slightly in their dimensions, height, bowl diameter, bowl thickness, foot diameter and thickness etc. The realistic usable capacity is 150 ml or a gill, which equates to a quarter of a pint, although the maximum capacity is a little larger at about 160 ml. They were probably were originally intended for ale but, they would be eminently suitable for Champagne, Cremant, Franciacorta, Prosecco, Cava or English sparkling wines.
