A very attractive set of six Booths Silicon China coffee cans and saucers in the Worcester porcelain style with scale blue ground and exotic birds pattern.
This lovely set dates from circa 1900 but the design harks back to the Georgian period, around 1770, when Worcester produced their scale blue porcelain with hand painted exotic birds.
This very decorative set has been printed and hand coloured and gilded. There are variations in the designs with four of the cans having the same exotic bird on the front and two, a different bird. Similarly, four saucers have the same central bird and the other two are different. There are also variations in some of the extra details to all of the pieces just as the Worcester originals had. There are different birds and insects in the small side cartouches of the cans and the floral sprays on the back of the cans also varies. No two pieces are the same, adding to the overall highly decorative effect of this set.
The saucers have a diameter of 4 3/4 inches and the cans stand 2 1/4 inches high. Together, the set weighs 983 g and it is in good condition with one of the cans having had its handle broken and re-fixed with old restoration at both terminals There is a related hairline down this can near the handle. Another can is crazed inside with some discolouration and there is minor crazing to some of the saucers.
