Silver Plated Fish Eaters Ivorine handles Frank Cobb & Co Boxed Antique 1905
A boxed set of antique silver plated ivorine handled fish eaters or fish knives and forks. This lovely quality thick oak case is fitted with a blue velvet interior and holds six place settings. There is a label in the box marked patent 24858. The top of the box has an inset brass presentation plaque inscribed "R.L.F.S. presented to T Archer Esq. on the occassion of his marriage".
The fish eaters are in their original box which has the original paper envelope containing the key for the working lock. Five of the knife blades are marked EPNS and one is marked F.C. & Co EPNS A1 indicating that they were made by Frank Cobb and co. of 35-37 Howard street, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, sometime between 1905 and 1911.
The blades and forks are each engraved with and acanthus leaf scrolling design. Each knife is 8 1/4 inches long and the forks are 7 inches long. The cutlery items alone weigh 480g and with the box, 1274g total.
The set is in very good condition overall with just a couple of extremely minor marks to the outside of the box. It has clearly been treasured over the years. A great set for both display and for use.
