Spode Copeland's China porcelain cabinet plate painted central floral landscape pattern R2331 topiary - gilded Bradford border 461740 antique c 1905
A Spode Copeland's China porcelain cabinet plate, beautifully hand painted in bright polychrome enamels in pattern R2331 combined with the Bradford border pattern that has a registered design number 461740. The central round vignette has a gilded border and is decorated with a floral landscape with colourful daisy type flowers in the foreground and topiary shrubs in the background under a cloudy blue sky. A central path curves off to the right behind the flowers.Â
The plate has scalloped rim with a very ornate border with a rich deep cobalt blue ground, ornate gilding and printed swags. This particular high quality plate is marked in green on the back Spode Copeland's China England, and has the painted pattern number R2331. Â Manufactured by W.T. Copeland and sons ltd of Spode Works, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England.
It is a very good quality item with a fine body with an unusual subject and nicely hand painted scene. It is in good antique condition, a small scratch to the lower part of the painting and some extremely minor wear and marks commensurate with age and use. Part of the foot rim on the bottom has come away from the plate in the past and has been glued back into place. This is not visible other that when the plate is turned over for close inspection. Please see the images.
The plate measures 8 1/4 inches (21 cm) diameter and 3/4 inch  (1.8 cm) high. It weighs 337 grammes unpacked. This is a very nice plate and a great example of an uncommon pattern hand painted in polychrome enamels with additional gilding. This item dates from the Edwardian  period of the early 20th Century circa 1905.
