Vintage Sterling silver & coral dromedary camel ornament with mahawi possibly Arabian - stamped 925 - 7 cm high 8 cm long weight 90 grammes
A decorative early to mid 20th century sterling silver and coral ornamental model of a dromedary camel. It is possibly Arabian in origin but could be from North Africa or the Middle East. It is made with a cast body covered with applied rosette adornments that form the texture of the camels fur. There is an integral camel saddle or mahawi which has been decorated with silver filigree and coral mounts and a band of coral mounts representing the securing strap (kfal) for the mahawi. The camel has coral beads for eyes and two chains from the mouth as reins. The bottom of one of the feet is stamped 925, additionally it tests as silver.
Condition: Very good antique condition, some minor marks, commensurate with age and use. Please see the images.
The camel stands approximately 2 3/4 inches ( 7 cm ) high, is 3 1/8 inches ( 8 cm ) long and 1 inch ( 2.5 cm ) wide. It weighs 90 grammes unpacked.
