The Dictionary of Arts and Sciences and Manufactures illustrated with 1100 engravings by G Francis F.L.S. published in 1842 by W. Brittain of 11 Paternoster Row, London, England. A very interesting and usefully illustrated reference work for all, to help explain the details of arts and sciences including chemistry with information on tools scientific principles, machinery and scientific equipment, chemical experiments, electrical experiments, and a dictionary of practical receipts, etc. current in the first half of the 19th century. It is illustrated throughout with attractive black and white small diagrams of early Victorian inventions experiments and text.

G Francis was a fellow of The Linnean Society of London which is a learned society dedicated to the study and dissemination of information concerning natural history, evolution, and taxonomy. The book is from the very early Victorian period of the mid 19th century.

Quarter leather binding in black with black faux shagreen paper covered boards and gilt titles to spine. No page numbers, for the front section, 224 pages on chemistry, metallurgy and other experiments. Approximately 500 printed pages total.

Condition Report : Externally Spine very good condition title in gilt, extremely minor marking. Joints good condition Leather is in very good condition. Page edges pink tinted ( may have been red and have faded). Binding very firm. Bookplate to the front end paper. Corners good condition very minor wear. Boards good condition very minor marks. Page edges good condition. Internally Hinges good condition solid.  End papers some foxing and discolouration. Title good condition discoloured and foxed. Pages good condition some foxing.
