Victorian Aesthetic Movement Silver Plated Tea Service 4 Piece Richardson c 1870
Victorian Aesthetic Movement Silver Plated Tea Service 4 Piece Richardson c 1870
A Victorian circa 1870 silver plated aesthetic movement tea service. This great looking silver plated four piece tea service comprising tea pot, coffee pot, milk jug and sugar bowl. The items are all in a very elegant tapering oval shape. They bear the maker's mark of Richard Richardson of Cornwall Works, Pond Hill, Sheffield, England.
The set has very attractive engraved decoration featuring leaves, fern like fronds, seed heads and grasses, all typical popular motifs of the aesthetic movement period, circa 1870. The tea pot and coffee pot both have oval shaped bovine bone knobs and the coffee pot has its original muslin liner. The coffee pot stands approx 9 1/4 inches high and the tea pot, 6 1/2 inches. Together they all weigh 2244g - a good, heavy gauge.
The set is in good condition with a little minor wear to the plate, mostly to the tea pot at the handle, lid and spout where it has been handled. A previous owner has scratched their postcode on the bases and on the inside of the jug. This is a very attractive set and a very decorative for display or use.
