Victorian Carved Roses Oak Picture Frame Arts and Crafts Design Decorated with Continuous Climbing Rose Design 19 inches x 17 inches Rebated 19th C
A very attractive and highly decorative Arts and Crafts carved oak Victorian rebated picture frame, decorated with a continuous scrolling floral, climbing rose flower, bud, rose hips or seeds and leaf design. At the top of the frame there is one large central Tudor rose flanked by two smaller roses, some collectors may refer to these as Dog-Roses (Rosa Canina). The frame dates to late 19th century in the Victorian era circa 1890.
It has overall sizes of 19 1/4 inches (49 cm) high by 17 inches ( 43 cm ) wide and a depth of approximately 5/8 inches (1.8 cm). The internal rebate size is 13 15/16 inch (35.4 cm) by 11 1/2 inches (29.2 cm) the depth of the rebate is 9/32 inch (0.7cm). The maximum visible area for a painting is 13 1/4 inches ( 33.8 cm) by 10 7/8 inches ( 27.7 cm). The depth of carving is approximately 3/16 inch or 5mm.
The frame is in very good antique original condition with some marking commensurate with age and use. There is no glass nor backing board. - please see the images. It could be used for a painting, print, embroidery, photograph or mirror.
