Victorian Pair Ornate Silver Plate Berry Spoons Original Box Wilson Penrith 1870
A gorgeous pair of silver plated berry spoons in their original, velvet lined box. A superb pair of berry or dessert spoons dating from around 1870 - 1880. They can be dated not only by their ornate style, but also by researching the maker/ retailer Wilson of 29, Middlegate, Penrith who moved to this address in the 1870s.
The spoons are very decorative with an ornate embossed and engraved design featuring berries, flowers and foliage. The bowls of the 9 inches long spoons have crimped edges. The spoons appear to have never been used and are absolutely immaculate. The interior of the box is beautifully fitted with turquoise velvet and turquoise silk lining to the lid.
The exterior of the box has a few little scuffs but nothing serious. The box opens and closes with a little push in button with a very positive snap. This is a lovely set for display and use and would make a lovely gift for a silver wedding anniversary, for example. The spoons weigh 158g and boxed, 482g.
