Victorian Parian vase decorated with applied grapevines & tendrils baluster shaped serrated flared rim Samuel Alcock antique ca 1850 25.4cm H 0.64 kg
A beautiful and very skilfully decorated ornate parian porcelain vase with applied grapevines complete with bunches of grapes, leaves and tendrils. Some collectors may refer to this type of vase as biscuit or bisque porcelain. The vase is round in section and of a baluster shape with a low relief leaf decoration with the applied grapevine decoration. There are twin crab-stock or vine stock handles a flared serrated neck rim with a stippled decoration.
Although this vase is unmarked it has been attributed Samuel Alcock and company who operated from Hill Works, Liverpool Road, Burslem, Staffordshire, England from 1828 until 1860. We think that it dates to around 1850, during the reign of Queen Victoria in the mid nineteenth century. The base is unmarked other than the potter's model makers mark, technically known a repairer's mark which looks like a monogram "vt".
This is a great item for any collector of antique parian porcelain, biscuit porcelain vases, for a period or a contemporary home.
Condition
The condition is excellent with a very few of the expected very minor losses to the leaves and tendrils. No other chips, cracks, nor restoration. This is a rare survivor, whenever this type of decoration is found they often have significant losses unlike this beautiful example.
