Ola Gorie Silver Cufflinks St Magnus Cross Celtic Scottish HM Edinburgh 1989
A great-looking pair of vintage silver cuff links by Orkney designer, Ola Gorie. The round shaped cuff links have a traditional Celtic design known as St Magnus Cross.
The Scottish cuff links are fully marked on the back of the heads with an Edinburgh hallmark for the year 1989. They have the maker's monogram OG - Ola Gorie. They are also stamped sterling on the bars that go through the cuff and are of the hinged swivel bar type. They are very good quality as you would expect from this great designer and similar cuff links sell new for £175.00
This very stylish and attractive design is based on a stylised cross carved in sandstone at the cathedral at Kirkwall, Orkney that was built in the 12th Century in honour of St Magnus The Martyr. Ola Gorie lived opposite the cathedral as a child, so the impact of this iconic, Norse influenced cross has been very influential to her work as a silversmith and jeweller.
The head of the cuff links is 5/8ths inch and they weigh 11 grammes. They are in good condition, ready to wear and perfect for wear on any occasion.
