A very pretty Wiltshaw and Robinson round shaped dessert plate with an ornate embossed design and a printed and hand coloured floral pattern, number 232 R. The flowers look a bit like Violas. The plate has two registered design numbers printed on the back: 224145 and 226167. These number relate to the year 1895, so the plate was made after this date.
The base has the Swift or Swallow, bird logo , the letters W&R and Stoke on Trent on a scrolled ribbon print. This antique plate dates to the late 19th century circa 1895 during the Victorian period in the UK and was made by Witshaw and Robinson of Carlton works, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, England.
The plate is 8 11/16 inches (22 cm) diameter. It stands approx 1 inch ( 2.5 cm) high and weighs 412 grammes unpacked. It is in excellent antique condition with minor wear to the gilding and some glaze crazing to the back. No chips cracks nor restoration.
It is a very attractive item for display and will be of particular interest to collectors of Wiltshaw and Robinson ceramics antique English transfer-ware.
