Zsolnay Pecs Reticulated Vase 3695 Jugendstil c 1895 Austria Hungarian
An antique Jugendstil or Art Nouveau Zsolnay Pecs reticulated vase decorated in majolica glazes and gilding with yellow orchids and pink flowers. The vase is made in a square section with a bulbous shaped base which is sat on four small bracket feet. The long narrowish tapering neck has four bracketed spires, one in each corner. There are two gothic "A" shaped handles on opposing corners at the base of the neck at the joint to the body. The cream coloured earthenware body and neck have been carefully pierced in order to highlight the low relief design. It has then been glazed and gilded to give this bright and lustrous finish.
The underside of the base is impress marked: Zsolnay Pecs made in Austria Hungaria, it also has the shape number 3695 which relates to 1891-1895 and as was made in Austria Hungaria. The reference to Austria Hungaria helps to confirm the date to prior to 1918.
This beautiful antique reticulated vase is in fair antique condition. It has been broken on one side at the top and glued, however this damage can barely be seen except when viewed on the inside.
This is a lovely antique item to add to any collection of Zsolnay Pecs, Art Nouveau, Jugendstil or Sucessionist pottery items.
